How it all started.....
Josh started playing drums as a high school sophomore. After a few weeks
of learning the set, he starting coming to school early to jam with a
freshman guitarist named Ernie. Later they began to play with a
young guitarist named Andy. The jam sessions were infrequent, but
a friendship and mutual respect formed between the musicians that
planted the seeds for 4th Division's formation two years later...
Before 4th Division formed, another band came and went - in his junior year, Josh asked two of his best
friends if they wanted to start a band. So Clay got out his guitar, and
Justin borrowed a bass and learned to play. Vocals were picked up by
Jamie, a mutual friend of the three, and the band was complete. The four
had fun jamming, and decided to add another guitarist. Josh asked Andy
if he wanted to join, and Sartorius reached its peak. As the band
progressed, conflicts arose, and the members decided to call it quits
rather than risk their friendships with each other.
However, Josh and Justin didn't want to
give up on having a band, so they asked Andy to form a new band with
them. Another guitar was needed, so Ernie was invited to join. Ernie was already in a band, but decided to leave it, and 4th
Division was born. The four practiced a few songs they knew by Metallica
and Green Day, and they played at high school basketball games, minus
vocals, after half time (the pep band played until half time). The first
real gig was at Leroy Elementary School, and that gave the band a taste
of what performing live music was like. The story of 4th Division
had begun...
